Forty Minutes by the Delaware: The story of the Whitalls, Red Bank Plantation, and the battle for Fort Mercer
Published in Paperback by Upublish.com (15 July, 1999)
Author: Lee Patrick Anderson
Average review score:

Excellent
This book was very easy to follow. I found it to be historically accurate and highly informative. From the very beginning the author has the reader very captivated. The book gave a complete view on not just the battle but how the people of that era lived. It gave a good human side to a major event in our history. Whoever reads this book will appreciate both sides of this war. And most importantly, this book stimulates the sense of heritage, pride, and the importance of preserving our valuable history. The statistics were also helpful for me, because for the first time I saw the correct numbers of troops involved in the Battle of Fort Mercer. This book was well done.

Freshwater Fishes of the Carolinas, Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware
Published in Hardcover by Univ of North Carolina Pr (May, 1994)
Authors: Fred C. Rohde, James F. Parnell, and David G. Lindquist
Average review score:

very good but I have a dilemma
I am the animal care specialist in our park. We recently added a few new sunfish to our aqarium. In trying to ID them I was confused at the pictures in your book on plate 133(mud sunfish) and on plate 146 (redear sunfish). Could they be possibly mis labeled? Other than that the book has been extremely helpful.

History of Delaware
Published in Hardcover by Univ of Delaware Pr (September, 2001)
Author: John A. Munroe
Average review score:

Good one volume history of the First State
Dr. Munroe has written an excellent one volume history of Delaware. He weaves political, economic and social history together in an interesting fashion that explains Delaware's unique character and happenings. For Delaware natives and afficionados, this is probably as good a background as there is on the First State.

How To Incorporate and Start a Business in Delaware
Published in Paperback by Adams Media Corporation (November, 1997)
Author: J. W. Dicks
Average review score:

Fine book for starts
It's a good book for starts. This definitely clears a lot of concepts for a beginner entrepreneur. Of course, if you really need to go the big way, it's always best to consult a proper attorney. It is a good idea for this book as a quick reference on the desk of the entrepreneur.

The instruction for Johan Printz, Governor of New Sweden "The first constitution or supreme law of the States of Pennsylvania and Delaware."
Published in Unknown Binding by I. J. Friedman ()
Author: Amandus Johnson
Average review score:

A must-have for serious students of Delaware's legal history
In addition to the "Instructions" given to Governor Johan Printz, this book contains court records from New Sweden, correspondence from Gov. Printz, and information relative to the Swedish colonists' relations with the Dutch. Furthermore, it contains several valuable photographs of critical documents, places, and historical markers.

King of the Delawares: Teedyuscung, 1700-1763 (The Iroquois and Their Neighbors)
Published in Paperback by Syracuse University Press (December, 1990)
Author: Anthony F. C. Wallace
Average review score:

King of the Delawares: Teedyuscung
Anthony F. C. Wallace, like his father, Paul A. W. Wallace, is an acknowledged authority on the Lenni Lenape, or Delaware, and this book is one of his finest. It tells the story of the enigmatic Teedyuscung fairly, accurately, and (at times) grippingly.

Interestingly, the flow of the book reflects the uneven, back-and-forth fortunes of Teedyuscung and his people in eighteenth century America, which can be somewhat dizzying for some readers. But it is well worth the effort, and the persevering reader will be rewarded.

The maps that are included in the volume are so helpful that one might wish there were more, but that fault is easily overlooked.

The Legend of the Cranberry: A Paleo-Indian Tale
Published in School & Library Binding by Simon & Schuster (Juv) (September, 1993)
Authors: Ellin Greene and Brad Sneed
Average review score:

Great
This book is about the Paleolithic time in what is now North America, the Great Spirit creates Yah-qua-whee (the mastodon) to help the people. But when the mastodons turn against the people, the smaller animals side with the People to defeat them. After hundreds are killed in the great battle, the "creator" sends thunderbolts into the ground, killing the mastodons. The "crane-berries" that grow in the bogs formed during the fighting are a peace offering from the creator to the people. They are also the gift Native Americans give to the Pilgrims at the first Thanksgiving. I found this book to be very interesting. The legend was something that I had never heard of and the way the author told the story really held my attention. The illustrations were beautiful and would be very helpful to a young reader. This would be a great book to use when doing a culture unit in the classroom.

Mid-Atlantic Budget Angler: Fly-Fishing for Trout in Delaware, Ma
Published in Paperback by Stackpole Books (January, 1998)
Author: Ann McIntosh
Average review score:

A unique guide to the Mid-Atlantic's best fly fishing spots
Members of Trout Unlimited (TU) have had the pleasure of reading Ann McIntosh's "Budget Angler" in "Trout" magazine for a number of years. Her long awaited book won't disappoint TU members and, likely, a whole new group of fans.

"Mid-Atlantic Budget Angler" offers something often hard to find in flyfishing literature: useful information. Ms. McIntosh describes some of the region's best flyfishing spots, some well-known, others not so well known. She describes stream conditions, gives understandable directions and offers tips on fishing conditions, stream idiosyncracies, places to stay and much more.

For flyfishers seeking practical information on flyfishing in the Mid-Atlantic region, this book may well become the bible.

Mid-Atlantic Gardener's Guide: Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Washington, D.C
Published in Paperback by Cool Springs Press (April, 2004)
Authors: Andre Viette, Mark Viette, and Jacqueline Heriteau
Average review score:

pretty good
I like that this book is specifically about the area in which I live. There's lots of good info here. I wish there had been more flowers listed, though. I wanted to find a smorgasbord of pretty, interesting and different flowers from which to choose. (I'm not looking to plant trees, so I just skipped over that section.) I think this book is a pretty good resource for neophyte or relatively new gardeners in the Mid-Atlantic.

Natural Lives, Modern Times: People and Places of the Delaware River
Published in Hardcover by Crown Pub (April, 1992)
Author: Bruce Stutz
Average review score:

Fine journalism
In what appears to be, sadly, Bruce Stutz's only book, Stutz introduces the reader to those who scratch noble livings out of a river that yields not much more than a few shad each spring. He journeys south from Hancock, NY, to Philadelphia, PA, to present the lives of riparian denizens fighting to maintain their source of income against our (federal and state) government's struggles to protect our beautiful, valuable, and fragile Delaware River Valley. Neither side in Stutz's book comes across as "right" or "wrong" because, well, both sides care deeply about this stunning river. The one lack in "Natural Lives, Modern Times" is the lack of photos or illustrations, beyond some attractive woodcuts heading each chapter.
